FREDDY’S 3rd ANNUAL 5th AVE DOGGY FASHION SHOW:

“Four-legged fashionistas from across the borough headed to Freddy’s Bar in Park Slope to strut their stuff at the watering hole’s annual dog fashion show on Saturday. The event marked the cutting-edge debut of the latest trends in designer doggy duds, which have elevated animal from man’s best friend to man’s best-dressed friend in the three years since Freddy’s Doggy Fashion Show first appeared on the scene, according to organizers.

“This year more than any, there was a lot of effort put into the fashion aspect,” said dog-fashion guru and Freddy’s co-owner Donald O’Finn. “There were a lot of great outfits.”

Thirty-two icons of canine couture went nose to butt on the Fifth Avenue dog-runway, battling for the event’s prestigious Xena Award, which takes its name from O’Finn’s beloved pit-bull mix, who’s sad death inspired the renowned fashion show.

The prize ultimately went to Captain William Trigger of Ludlow, a first-time contender and yellow lab who swept the field with his western-inspired bull and rider costume.

Honorable mentions included Gregory, a Texas-born Brussels Griffon whose prodigious underbite earned him “Best Smile,” and Fire, a saucy 10-year-old Greyhound who judges named “Sexiest Dog.”

In addition to informing dog owners on the latest trends of the season, both pups and people had lots of fun, attendees said — which, at the end of the day, isalmost as important as dog fashion.” ~ The Brooklyn Paper:  http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/39/30/dtg-bb-dog-fashion-show-2016-07-21-bk.html

“Fashion forward Fido’s took it to Freddy’s “catwalk” Runway. The street was closed to cars but open to canines, with a competition featuring our obligatory red-carpet entrance, runway stage, prizes and a chance to pose for pupperazzi in front of the step-and-repeat. Admission was FREE.

The Doggy Fashion Show featured hosts Mike Drucker and Jess Dweck, both comedy writers for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, who provide a play-by-play of the parade of mutt-couture.” ~Freddy’s

“This year we’ll be even bigger and better,” says Freddy’s co-owner and paw-ganizer Donald O’Finn.  O’Finn also counsels dog owners to think big. “We encourage all contestants to work it, because you get only one entrance. There is no such thing as too extreme.” First prize is always the coveted Xena trophy, named in memory of O’Finn’s beloved pit mix, a stray who went on to become a Freddy’s regular for 20 years.

It was a monster success, & i want to thank all who participated, and all who watched, drank, ate, laughed and loved. The rest I really don’t care about! “Pups strutted their stuff at the second annual Doggy Fashion Show at Park Slope watering hole Freddy’s Bar and the owner of the top dog said he was star-struck just walking beside his prize pooch on the runway.

“It was the most celebrity moment I’ve experienced in my life, just being near her, because cameras were flashing,” said Erik Satre of Cobble Hill, whose shih tzu-poodle mix Harley won first place. Harley took the competition by storm in a princess tiara and a costume Satre said he constructed out of Crown Royal whiskey bags, which drew plenty of howls and wolf-whistles from the audience.”~ N.Y.
