The Extraordinaires

Tue Feb 21 @
10:00 pm - 11:30 pm

For more than 5 years, this stellar group of talented musicians has been the touring band for the Screaming Eagle of Soul, Mr. *Charles Bradley, of Daptone Records. They have traveled the world performing high energy music at an unstoppable rate, proving that Soul music is very much alive. Their versatility captures the vintage sound, ranging from early rhythm & blues giants like Link Wray or the Ventures, to well arranged soul instrumentals, that of Willie Mitchell, and especially the most unheard of James Brown hidden gems you wish you knew. These guys are a good time that you won’t want to miss.
Performing at Freddy’s on the 3rd Tue Monthly, at 10pm

*Charles Bradley’s Victim of Love went on to receive overwhelming praise and was included on “Best of 2013” lists by SPIN, MOJOPasteBuzzFeedRough Trade & more. The album’s title track was also named one of Rolling Stone’s “Best Songs of 2013.”
The album is named for his popular, “smoldering” (SPIN) cover of the Black Sabbath track. Previously only available as a Record Store Day 45, “Changes” will appear on the album and is now available digitally for the first time via iTunes. “I think about the lyrics very closely when I sing ‘Changes’ and get emotional,” notes Bradley. “It makes me think of my mother and the changes in my life since she passed away.”
Those emotions are what lead to the final cut of the intimate and spare video for the song. Charles was originally set to sing along to the track and film in Times Square but, in the editing room, director Eric Feigenbaum (Remedial Media) says he “kept coming back to the take of Charles looking straight at the camera, telling the story with his eyes and reacting in the moment to the song. We only did that once. By the end of the take, everybody in the room was holding back tears.”
